Al Cannon
Trumpeter Al Cannon is a freelance musician and brass educator based in Vancouver, BC. Al has performed across North America and in Ireland, Thailand, Taiwan, and China. He has been selected to attend numerous outstanding summer music programmes including the Pierre Monteux School in Hancock, Maine, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. From 2007-2009, Al was the Acting Principal Trumpet with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and is currently an extra trumpet for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Cannon, specializing in brass chamber music, is a member of Cascades Brass (2006 first prize Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition) and the Vancouver Brass Project, for which he also serves as a primary administrator.
Al is a student of the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at the University of British Columbia, where he was a twice a recipient of the university’s highly competitive University Graduate Fellowship. He teaches at the Vancouver Academy of Music, and maintains an active schedule as a freelance performer, private instructor, clinician, and brass arranger.
